Woven

Hello everyone! It's Hannah writing to you today. Mom's been a busy little bee (as usual!), and has been creating new felted pieces for classes. She's been particularly enjoying woven wet felt techniques.

We call this one the "Prairie Wrap". I love the plaid look, it's so cozy!

In the process of making it.

These are woven table mats. I think they'd be perfect for Christmas time.

Mom also whipped up this adorable vessel. Lisa thinks it looks like a sea anemone, I just love the purple, magenta and green color combo.

As always, visit our classes page for upcoming class dates and details! We will have classes on the vessel, table mat and Prairie Wrap coming up!

Frilly Things

Hello, everyone! It's Hannah writing to you today. We're making a conscience effort to gear up for the holiday season this year and that involves making gifts ASAP. Emma and I went a little wild with our "Farmington" line of fabrics last week and whipped out a bunch of our favorite aprons.

Ruffles and pink! So girly!

Hannah made this apron with two of our chevron stripe fabrics and "Type" by Julia Rothman. It's pretty hip.

These fun little items are on display and for sale in the shop now. They're 100% cotton, machine washable, and fit a variety of sizes. As always, we encourage our readers, fans and customers to think local when it comes to their holiday shopping!

A Photoshoot and the New Website!

Hello!  Emma here today.  A while back we had the pleasure of working with my dear friend Marie, of Permanent Glimpse Photography, and our beautiful models, Dylann and Kimberlee.  The day with the Marie was the first of many scheduled days to try and document all of the work of the mass producing artists I find myself surrounded by (I say with a grin).  Below are just a few samplings of the day.  If you want to see the ENTIRE shoot you will have to check out the NEW WEBSITE (WWWWWWOOOOOHHHHHHHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) that has been a long time coming!  Here's the link to see those photo galleries:  LINK.

Art Stock 2013

Art Stock is back!  The large format art show that the High Hand Gallery hosts every other year always has quite a few felt and fabric pieces! I highly recommend seeing the show in person, the textures are great!  The gallery is having a reception for the show on September 6th - details HERE.

Espadrilles!

Look at these cute little wet felted slippers that Mom whipped up. Not only are they adorable, but they're super comfortable and are made specifically to fit your foot. She's teaching a class on how to make these little babies tomorrow. Give us a call at 916-652-2134 if you're interested in signing up!

Challenge Accepted

We here at the little Thimble that Could are on a mission. Have you ever seen "the back room" here at the shop? Well if you have you know that it's packed. If you haven't, it's full to the brim...I mean it's really full. We have zippers, snaps, sewing machines, needles, fabric, patterns, rick rack, bias tape, quilt pieces, tracing paper, hem tape, ribbon and books all boxed, labeled and stacked on shelves that literally tower over our work space. We have fabrics that are posted only online all color coordinated, shelved and organized by category. There are irons placed shoulder to shoulder in the window sill, spinning wheels, hangers and display pieces that precariously hang from the ceiling. It is, to say the least, an exquisite, creative, organized disaster. In an attempt to bridle this wondrous, mostly-vintage mess, we have began a purge of our lesser favorite pieces. Emma and I (Hannah) have been frantically posting items to our Ebay and Etsy shops in hopes of dispersing our stash of totally cool and practical items.

We love our vintage needle books. We just can't get rid of them. We think they'd make lovely stocking stuffers or gift card holders.

Online fabric sales are just another retail outlet for our little business!

Patterns, patterns, patterns.

For our long-term customers, remember all of our aprons in the original shop? They're making a come back!

Our personal stash of our favorite vintage patterns.

The view from my desk. Is that safe? Probably not. A little terrifying? Yes. Do all those boxes contain awesome things? Absolutely.

Pine Needle Felt

In April, we were thrilled to bring Leiko Uchiyama to The Thimble Classroom to share her unique felting technique, Pine Needle (or "Matsuba" in Japanses) Felt.  The results were FABULOUS!

A hearty "Thank You!" to Leiko for traveling over our way and sharing her knowledge with us.  Everyone's projects were just beautiful and we look forward to having Leiko back!
